Educating business and startup owners about design theory (not tutorials 😁), sharing insights on how design and marketing can help build successful brands.
Me: Hey, can I get the SVG file of your logo?
Client: Didn’t you get that in the email?
Me: No, it only has the JPEG version. Did your designer provide different file formats for the logo?
Client: Ahh… no.. this is the only file I have…
I hope that’s not the case for you, but I’ve seen many clients who are unaware of how important these files are. The problem is that there are many mentors, guides, lectures, and videos helping designers and marketers succeed in their careers, which is very valuable. However, for entrepreneurs and business owners, there are limited resources that guide them through the basics of design and marketing.
I know you all think that we business owners have enough on our plates, and now we’re supposed to learn how to make logos ourselves? Honestly, get out…
Relax, I’m not here to give tutorials or classes on becoming a designer. Instead, I want to show you how important it is to understand terms like file formats, engagement, and more. Business is one of your top priorities, and design and marketing represent it visually, helping you reach audiences, customers, and sales. When you delegate your business visuals, you need to be involved and understand what’s happening. With proper knowledge, you can ask the right questions and address concerns that directly impact your business, because in the end, it’s yours and you’ll be affected if things go wrong.
Last night, I overheard a conversation. The client was very happy that a new design agency helped his Instagram reels reach around 35k+ views… Wow, that's a big number, right? But later, it turned out that despite this reach, the video got only a few, even fewer than 10, likes… oops…
What does that mean for Instagram? It’s like talking to a room of 35k+ people but only a few are genuinely listening while others scroll past. Instagram’s AI then perceives the content as boring or uninteresting, and it won’t promote it, so the results are limited.
The client was happy with the numbers because he didn’t understand what engagement really is. The agency was simply making money by promoting videos in cheap locations to irrelevant audiences… SHAME…
If he had known what engagement actually meant, he could have saved money, time, and even his business.
After these experiences, I realised I should share my knowledge to make things easier for you. I’ll focus on teaching design theory, what type of design suits different businesses, where to focus, key terminologies, red flags, and marketing basics like reach, engagement, ad budgets, and their terms. This will help you communicate more effectively with designers and marketers.
I’ll be posting articles and insights on my Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Make sure to follow me closely and don’t miss any valuable tips.
